The creative principle The Creative Principle was the outfit's first offering to the world. While the band had well over an hour's worth of material by the end of 2002, they thought it prudent to record just two tracks as a sample of their musical style. With the songs Haunted and Shamisens Medley clocking in at over eighteen minutes each, this was a wise decision. This release was only shipped to a very small amount of carefully selected labels. Seven to be precise. Acutely aware that to stand any chance of getting noticed amongst the hundreds of demos, record labels receive, the guys started thinking hard about how to make that all important first impression. Not brave enough to carry out crazy stunts - like breaking into record label bosses cars, and leaving demo tapes in the tape player - Pete opted to make a visual impact instead. Thus, Pete designed this hand-made, classy looking, gate-fold package. Notably, despite having a Graphic Design degree from Loughborough University and professional studio experience, when creating the artwork for T.C.P., Pete had zero idea of how to go about creating CD covers. So, that was a bit of an experiment actually, and while amateur looking compared to later works, it was an important step in developing this skill. One he couldn't do without now. The Rest Is History Having firmly assumed the role of band artist, now, Pete Morten set about designing what would be a beautifully eye-catching package with which to house The Creative Principle CD in. Many proofs and mock-ups later, Pete got it all printed at a local high street printers. Pertinently, due to the complexity of the package and it’s myriad components, it was way out of the band's budget to get it all printed and made up at a printing press. So on receipt of the prints, Pete also assumed the role of manufacturer too. While only seven of these were ever made, each promo pack took approximately twelve hours to make, by hand. Production included precise measuring and cutting of grey board templates, then cutting, scoring, folding and gluing the printed graphics to the board, left over night for eight hours to set, Pete could then make up the remaining artwork for the two booklets, laminated AAA passes, letters and pictures, to say nothing of all the other paper parts for the CD artwork and slipcase. muscians Pete Morten Vocals/Guitars John R.
